Description/Comments
Ed Kajiyama is a Senior Vice President, Branch Support Division at First Hawaiian Bank.Ê
He has been a Lupus Hawaii Board member since 2001 and Board Chair for three years.
His personal experience with Lupus: his Niece afflicted with disease, which required kidney
transplant from her mom to save her life.

Cheryl Ann Jong is a wife, mother of 4, lupus patient and President of
Lupus Hawai`i. Her organ systems that are affected are her skin, joints, muscles, lungs
and eyes to name a few. Migraines, photosensitivity, chest pain,
fevers, TIAs (mini-strokes), tremors, depression and more have plagued
her life since she was 16. No one knew the answer. All the different
diagnoses, different medications, different symptoms, no improvement -
and someone finally added it all up- Lupus. But children at the time
didn't get lupus. Therefor she had no support.

Through Lupus Hawaii- it is Cheryl's hope to spread awareness.Ê
Through education, awareness of what lupus is and how people can help,
support systems can be created and early detection, a network of support
can be established and one day soon, a cure can be found.

Her children are affected with lupus and it's affects
through living with the disease because they either have inherited it or
they have some other connective tissue disorder. Unfortunately, some of
her children have never known a lifestyle that you would consider
normal. But fortunately, they are blessed with a support system.<
