PREVIEW OF UPCOMING SPEAKERS
August 6: Agent Woletta Kim of the State Attorney General’s office will speak on internet safety. The Hawaii Internet & Technology Crimes (HITeC) Unit was established by the State Attorney General to assist in internet and technology related crimes. First, HITeC investigates and prosecutes technology crimes including identity theft, check and checking account fraud, and Internet fraud. Second, HITeC investigates and prosecutes Internet Crimes Against Children. These crimes include online enticement of children for sex, and the possession, distribution, and production of child pornography on the Internet.

August 20: Peter Forman, retired pilot and author of “Wings of Paradise”, will speak on the history of commercial aviation in Hawaii. For most of his career, Forman was a pilot, including 20 years flying jets on the mainland and Europe for a major U.S. airline. Flying was also a hobby as he spent vacations and days off hopping rides in his open-cockpit biplane. His experiences flying in Hawaii in the late '70s and early '80s led to a fascination with Hawaii's airline industry. Per Forman, "Three aspects caught my attention. First, Hawaiian Airlines is one of the world's oldest airlines still in operation. That it grew from this struggling early airline to its current self without ever
losing a passenger only magnifies the significance of this feat. Second, no two airlines have carried out a more intense feud as Hawaiian and Aloha Airlines have --- capacity battles, aircraft upgrades, lawsuits, near-mergers and dirty tricks. This is the Hatfields and McCoys story in U.S. airlines with loads of conflict --- an essential ingredient in a good story!”
