PALOLO SCHOOL CELEBRATION
Thanks to the efforts of many individuals and organizations including the Rotary Club of East Honolulu, Palolo Elementary School made its AYP (Annual Yearly Progress) goal for the year 2006-07 and is no longer in restructuring status. To celebrate this achievement and in appreciation of the administration, teachers, staff, students, and volunteers, the school staff is inviting everyone to join them for cake and ice cream on:

Friday, September 7, 2007
in the Palolo Elementary School cafeteria
Starting at 1:30 PM

You may RSVP to Henrietta Clemons at 733-4700 ext. 260. East Honolulu Rotarians can take pride knowing the many contributions made by its member (playground equipment, shoebox Christmas gifts, school supply drive, tutoring) has resulted in good things.

UPCOMING SPEAKER PROFILE
Dolan Eversole, the speaker on Sept. 10th, is a Coastal Lands Specialist working for the University of Hawaii, Sea Grant Program.  A Coastal Geologist by training, he works directly within the Office of Conservation and Coastal Lands (OCCL), Coastal Lands Program of the Department of Land and Natural Resources (“DLNR"). Dolan’s position at the UH Sea Grant is a co-funded position by the DLNR and Sea Grant where he serves as a technical advisor to the DLNR on coastal issues including coastal processes, erosion management, shoreline development and shoreline determinations.  As a scientific advisor to the DLNR, Dolan provides technical review and oversight for a variety of coastal land use proposals for the DLNR including applications for beach nourishment.  Dolan played a large role in the design, implementation and management of the recent Kuhio beach nourishment project. His talk to Rotary will cover coastal hazards and the rising sea level.

THE OFFICIAL ROTARY SONG
Issue_080604.jpg
Smile -Sing a Song
Smile and the world smiles with you, Sing a song.
Don't be weary, Just be cheery all day long.
Whenever your trials, Your troubles and your cares
Seem to be more than you can really bear
Smile and the world smiles with you, Sing a song.
