COMMUNITY SERVICE RECAP
Saturday, 11/3/07 was a busy day with two community service projects running concurrently. Kim Delmore, Tia Murray and son Parker, and Al Takata participated in the C&C of Honolulu Palolo Valley Cleanup and Water Project. The foursome stenciled 15 locations with “Do Not Dump Waste” signs along roadway gutters that empty into Palolo Stream. Concurrently the Kaimuki Kanikapila with the theme ”Rediscover Kaimuki” was in full swing with over 90 exhibitors. General Chairman for the event was Eric Wong while Naomi Masuno manned the Information Booth. Kevin Woo ran the First Aid Station with members of the Chinese Home, and Elsie Choy assisted by Bruce Monahan, Pat Yee, Aloha Makekau, Sister Joan Chatfield, Tia Murray (double duty!) and son Parker, Lisa Foster, and Al Takata helped in the Palolo Elementary School “Ring Toss” booth. Our club also donated 200 2-liter bottles for the prizes. Thanks to all participants for supporting these events.
MEETING ON JAN. 7, 2008
Although Waialae Country Club is dark the first two Mondays in January due to the Sony Open, there will be a club meeting on 1/8/08. Our meeting will be held at the Dave and Busters showroom. Thanks to our own Trisha L. Tsubaki for facilitating the room and lunch menu. The program for this meeting will simply be club fellowship and fun. More details will follow, but please plan on attending the Rotary meeting the first Monday in January.

A BRIEF OVERVIEW OF VETRANS DAY
Veterans Day is an American holiday honoring military veterans. Both a federal holiday and a state holiday in all states, it is celebrated on the same day as Armistice Day or Remembrance Day in other parts of the world, falling on November 11, the anniversary of the signing of the Armistice that ended World War I (major hostilities of World War I were formally ended at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918 with the German signing of the Armistice.) Veterans Day is largely intended to thank living veterans for their service, to acknowledge that their contributions to United States national security are appreciated, and to underscore the fact that all those who served ---not only those who died --- have sacrificed and done their duty.
