CHRISTMAS SHOEBOX PROJECT RECAP
Thanks to Ruth Chang and all the volunteers (Rotary and non-Rotary alike), our club provided beautifully wrapped boxes stuffed with goodies (see photo below) to the kids of Palolo Elementary. Thanks also go out to our friends at KAHALA SUNRISE ROTARY for their help. The shoeboxes were passed out to the kids by the school staff on December 20.
JIM CLARK
Former East Honolulu Rotarian and mainland transplant Jim Clark is doing well in Georgia. According to Elsie Choy who recently visited Jim, he moved into a 3,400 square feet, two story house with a big ole' Southern front porch across the front for around $365,000 (which doesn’t get you very much in Honolulu, Hawaii)! Jim reports he is domiciled in Cobb County which gives everyone over the age of 62 a tax break resulting in a payment of 40% of the total tax bill! The symbol of Rotary is the cogwheel with six spokes and twenty-four teeth. The keyway was added to signify the usefulness of the gearwheel. Before the cogwheel was approved in 1929, several versions of wagon wheels were used as the Rotary symbol. The change from wagon wheel to cogwheel emphasized work over just rotation. Royal blue and gold were chosen as the official Rotary colors, and the flag of Rotary was designated as a white field with the emblem emblazoned in its center
