ROTARY MINUTE by John Steelquist
The Rotary Minute is now a regular part of the Monday general meeting. The purpose of the Rotary Minute is to share a Rotary fact, highlight, or historical anecdote. Over time, it is hoped the members will appreciate the many facets, rich history, organizational structure, procedures and processes, and direct and indirect benefits of Rotary.
Past President
Since each Rotary Club selects a new president each year and Rotarians usually remain in the same club for many years, there are usually many men and women in a club who have served as president. These Rotarians who have spent a year-and-a-half working intensely for the club are a source of knowledge and history. Past presidents often serve in their Districts as Governors, Assistant-Governors, and Committee Chairs. When asked, the past president will tell you about “their year” with enthusiasm. For them, it was a time of hard work and great reward. When a club needs someone to do something, they know that the past president will usually say “Yes”.
Council On Legislation
The Council on Legislation is held every three years and is the legislative body for Rotary International (RI). The Council has the authority to amend the constitution documents of RI as well as to propose resolutions. Each district selects a representative to the week-long meeting to vote on legislation. The next Council is scheduled to be held in Chicago, Illinois in April 2010.

DISTRICT CONFERENCE SUBSIDY
